You will gain practical knowledge on exercise safety, risk management, and overcoming barriers to participation, ensuring you work confidently within your scope of practice while knowing when to refer for specialist support.

Learning Aims:

Recognise how physical activity and lifestyle changes can help prevent and manage heart disease.
Understand the risks and benefits of exercise for individuals living with heart conditions.
Identify common barriers to exercise for those with heart disease and how to address them.
Learn how to design and deliver safe, effective, and inclusive exercise sessions within your scope of practice.
Know when and how to signpost participants to specialist support when needed.

Describe the key risk factors and symptoms of common heart and circulatory diseases.
Explain the role of exercise in managing and preventing heart disease.
Assess potential risks and adapt exercise sessions accordingly to ensure participant safety.
Identify challenges faced by those with heart disease and provide appropriate encouragement and modifications.

The afternoon session will be practical, looking at ways to progress, regress and adapt exercises and activities for people living with heart disease.
